Crowns

Dental crowns, also known as caps, are used to cover and strengthen damaged or discolored teeth. Crowns protect the tooth and also restore form and function. Crowns are recommended for teeth with worn fillings, large cavities, cracks or other damage.

Dental crowns can be made of metal, porcelain, or a combination of the two; however, porcelain crowns are, by far, considered the most natural looking.

To prepare your tooth for the crown, the dentist will first remove and treat any decay or infection. He will then make an impression of your tooth. The impression is sent to specially trained technicians who will create your new crown. For porcelain dental crowns, the doctor will carefully match the color of your new crown to the color of your natural teeth. This ensures that your results will be as natural looking as possible.

If you have chipped or severally damaged teeth, contact our office today to find out more about dental crowns.

Bonding

Dental bonding, also known as composite bonding, is a procedure that repairs chipped or cracked teeth and conceals discoloration. Bonding can also be used to close gaps.

The procedure utilizes a special tooth-colored resin material that is bonded to the surface of the teeth. This procedure relies heavily on the skill and expertise of the dentist as the resin must be carefully sculpted and shaped to match your natural teeth.

Unlike porcelain veneers, dental bonding does not require laboratory fabrication; therefore, the procedure can be completed in only one appointment.

If you have discolored, chipped or damaged teeth, dental bonding may be the perfect solution for you. To learn more about dental bonding or to schedule a consultation with Dr. Garrison, please contact our office today.

Teeth Whitening

Did you know that not all of the over-the-counter tooth whitening products currently on the market have been approved by the American Dental Association? Furthermore, if used improperly, some of these whitening products can cause damage to tooth enamel and gum tissue.

If you are considering having your teeth whitened, we recommend that you contact a professional.

Dr. Garrison has many options available to create a beautiful, bright, white smile for you.

Porcelain Veneers

Did you know that whether your natural teeth are stained, chipped, gapped or crooked, in as few as two comfortable appointments, you can leave our office with a smile that will fill you with pride and self-confidence?

Porcelain veneers are paper-thin shells of porcelain that are bonded to the front surfaces of teeth. The flexibility of this procedure means the doctor is able to address a number of dental problems. This is why the procedure is often referred to as “instant orthodontics.”

During the procedure the doctor will first remove a tiny portion of the tooth’s outer surface to accommodate for the thickness of the veneers and to ensure a strong bond. Next, an impression is taken of your teeth. Your new veneers are then hand-crafted to the doctor’s specifications by a lab. When your new veneers are ready, the doctor will carefully bond and shape the veneers onto your teeth.

Root Canal Treatment

When decay and infection reach the pulp (or nerve) of the tooth, the dentist might recommend root canal therapy. Unfortunately, this treatment causes unwarranted anxiety and panic in many who are unaware that root canal therapy can be accomplished with minimal discomfort.

During the procedure, the doctor will remove the decayed pulp from the tooth and clean the roots. The tooth is then filled with a substance called gutta percha, and a temporary filling is placed on the tooth which will later be restored and strengthened with a crown.

New materials and technology often allow us to complete a root canal in only one sitting!

An Ounce of Prevention

Prevent gum disease! Brush, floss, see us regularly and SMILE!

Our goal is to find and correct small dental problems before they become larger and more costly. Preventive dental care should begin as soon as the first tooth appears. Every effort should be taken to preserve and maintain good oral health as your teeth will play a vital role in your overall health throughout your lifetime.

Our oral hygiene program is much more thorough and comprehensive than programs that you might find in other dental offices because we truly believe that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

The Importance of a Good Oral Hygiene Program

A key benefit of good oral hygiene is gum disease prevention, which is the most prevalent disease in our society and the most common cause of tooth loss in adults.

Studies show that patients with severe cases of gum disease are twice as likely to have fatal heart attacks as patients with healthy teeth and gums. According to recently published research, the most common strain of bacteria found in plaque may cause blood clots which, in turn, can induce heart attacks.

It is also thought that bacteria in plaque could give rise to lung infections, a weakened immune system, and a higher risk of premature birth.

This shows the importance that dental health plays in overall health. If you take the time to have your teeth cleaned regularly and floss daily, diseases linked to dental bacteria can be reduced.
